Projects

Take a facts-based journey through the universe each week with Fraser Cain (Universe Today) and Dr. Pamela L. Gay (Star Stryder). Together they explore what we know and how we know it on their podcast. Available online or through iTunes [iTunes link].
The 365 Days of Astronomy Podcast is a community project to publish one podcast per day, 5 to 10 minutes in duration, for all 365 days of 2009 2010. The podcast episodes will be written, recorded and produced by people around the world who donate a few minutes to share with you their passion for astronomy. This is a legacy project of the 2009 International Year of Astronomy.
Second Astronomy Started as an IYA2009 New Media Project, the Astronomy 2009 Island [slurl] took real world events into virtual realities, bringing the citizens of Second Life (TM) a way to experience projects such as From Earth to the Universe and The World at Night. Early in 2010 we’ll showcase John Gleason’s h-alpha astrophotography and roll out an island size Spitzer MIPSGAL/GLIMPSE walkable image. Later in the year we will roll out ‘as the eye sees’ telescopes wrapped in a star party atmosphere and a cultural astronomy “sky stories” experience. Read all about it on the Second Astronomy Blog.
We are Astronomers Coming 2010! This Beyond 2009 project looks to capture the diversity of who we are as astronomers through pictures and videos. Astronomers aren’t just gray-haired men working in ivory towers. They are men and women – and thanks to citizen science projects like Citizen Sky and Galaxy Zoo they are even kids and teens! Astronomers work in observatories, but they also work in Hollywood, in publishing houses, and everywhere inbetween. To find out how you can help, email info at WeAreAstronomers dot org.
Beyond IYA Astrosphere New Media is proud to support the legacy of the 2009 International Year of Astronomy. We will be hosting the archival websites from the US IYA.
